Changing Lives One Heart at a Time
Hearts & Horses provides a variety of therapeutic programs utilizing our incredible herd of four-legged partners. Our equine-assisted services are designed to support a diverse population, including children and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities, at-risk youth, individuals with dementia, and Veterans. We serve participants from age two through adulthood, tailoring our programs to meet a wide spectrum of needs.
We also offer an array of retreats and outreach designed to bring equine-related activities to an even larger population, as well as workshops and educational programming to help members of our community and the equine-assisted services industry learn more about our life-changing work. We are an industry leader in program development and research and partner with national organizations to help advance the science of our field.

Why Horses?
The natural gait (movement) of the horse stimulates human walking movement in a manner that cannot be replicated mechanically. While riding, participants must constantly make postural adjustments to maintain their balance, which in turn increases their overall orientation and body awareness. Other benefits include improved muscle tone, posture, range of motion, flexibility, social skills and emotional well being.
In addition, our horses provide a non-judgmental relationship, accepting individuals for who they are regardless of physical, emotional or social abilities. They provide the vehicles for our riders to grow, learn, rehabilitate and simply enjoy life. They help our riders achieve things that most of us take for granted (such as walking or feeling good about ourselves) every day.
