Occupational Therapy Integrating Horses for Autistic Youth: Results of a Research Study Conducted by Temple Grandin Equine Center and Heart & Horses
September 16, 2024 @ 5:30 am - 7:00 pm

Presenter: Dr. Caiti Peters – Assistant Professor, Department of Animal Sciences, Colorado State University
Dr. Caiti Peters will present the methods and results from a research study conducted in 2021 investigating occupational therapy integrating horses for autistic youth. 14 autistic youth first participated in 10 weeks of occupational therapy in a clinic (control intervention), followed by 10 weeks of occupational therapy integrating horses. Youth demonstrated improved self-regulation following both interventions, but occupational therapy integrating horses resulted in additive benefits in social functioning. Dr. Peters will discuss implications for practice and future research.
